Pretending to be Vincent Van Gogh
One of our Year 2 Enhanced Learning Provision pupils painted a landscape in the style of Van Gogh adding detail with thick brush strokes. When asked why the child was holding their ear, they responded “I am pretending to be Van Gogh holding my cut off ear!”

The pupils had a fantastic day at the Sports Arena and participated in a number of events. They enjoyed racing and sprinting along the athletics track. Some talented sprinters were spotted.

Year 5 and Year 6 have completed the topic ‘Blood Heart’. Freddie was inspired by Jackson Pollock’s splatter painting and drew a detailed heart in the style of Zentangle. Look at the intricate detail.

The pupils in Little Owls had an enjoyable visit to Godstone Farm today. They learnt about the different farm animals and particularly liked the piglets. They have been learning about how to care for different animals and held a rabbit, guinea pig and stick insect.

Year 3 and 4 have been studying the artist Vincent Scarpace. He is an American artist. His work is regarded as colourful, imaginative and original. The pupils made observational drawings of fish (bit stinky!). They also explored using carbon paper to draw. They then designed and created their own inspired fishy art piece.

The pupils in Year 2 have just begun an art project for Scented Garden. They have been learning about the locally born artist Cicely Mary Barker, who drew and painted the flower fairies. They have begun their art journey by making observational drawings of flowers.

Some of the girls represented the school at a football tournament today. There was some great football on show, along with some bone-crunching tackles, great teamwork and a fantastic goal from Cianna (followed by an acrobatic celebration!) They should all be very proud, well done girls.

We love our music lessons at Gilbert Scott Primary School from learning the Ukulele, our Djembe drums to our specialist music sessions. The children in the EYFS have been learning about how the tempo can change.

We celebrated Chinese New Year. We explored and tasted noodles. We made our own version of healthy spring rolls. We used carrots, courgettes, cabbage, bean sprouts and a teriyaki sauce. We cooked them in the air fryer and everyone tried a spring roll.
