At Gilbert Scott the art and design curriculum lays foundation skills, knowledge and aspirations to become artists, designers, architects, illustrators, art therapists, make-up artists and photographers. We place a great emphasis on the importance of Art and Design to ensure children have the opportunity to develop and extend their skills, whilst expressing their individual interests, thoughts and ideas. Our vision is to creatively explore ideas through exploration and experimentation using a curriculum to engage, inspire and challenge.
Our intent is to deliver a high-quality art and design curriculum that engages, inspires and challenges pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design. They will think critically and develop a more rigorous understanding of art and design. They will also know how art and design both reflects and shapes our history, and contributes to the culture and creativity of our changing world.
Children will communicate what they see, think and feel about art using a range of artistic vocabulary.
Children will talk about different kinds of art they like and don’t like, and be enthusiastic about sharing different perspectives on life through art. They will discuss and evaluate their own work and then make changes to their creative pieces.
